I want to bring this together around a concept that matters more than any individual rule, and that is reputation.
A travel advisor’s practice is built on trust. Clients trust your recommendations because they trust your expertise. They trust that when you tell them something about a destination, a property, a route, or a regulation, you have confirmed it. They trust that when you write to them, the communication reflects genuine thought about their specific situation, not a template run through a machine.
AI does not threaten that trust. Careless use of AI threatens it.
The advisor who uses AI to draft a proposal and then reviews it carefully, checking every factual claim, refining the language until it is precisely right for this client, and adding the human insight that no tool can generate: that advisor is using AI well. Their client receives a better proposal, produced more efficiently, and they have no reason to doubt the expertise behind it.
The advisor who uses AI to draft a proposal and sends the first output without reading it carefully, and the proposal contains a property that closed last season, or a visa requirement that changed six months ago, or a generic description that could apply to any client: that advisor has damaged their reputation in a way that is disproportionate to the time they saved.
The reputational risk of AI is not that you use it. It is that you rely on it uncritically. And the mitigation is not to avoid AI. It is to build the review habit that ensures every piece of output that leaves your practice meets your professional standard, regardless of how the first draft was produced.
